Based on concepts from the Wired for Reading(R) program, Word-Wires is a word study curriculum designed to be part of a complete integrated literacy model. The Word-Wires Curriculum series are designed for use by classroom teachers in a Tier 1 learning environment and:
- Uses the Science of Reading to provide the tools and resources to teach decoding and spelling to nurture joyful, skilled, and independent readers and writers.
- Assists teachers in making instructional decisions that reflect a deep knowledge of linguistics and best teaching practices to meet the individual needs of students.
- Equips students with generalizable and transferable skills strategies for reading, spelling, and vocabulary acquisition.
- Fosters a classroom environment where all students are honored for their personal strengths and literacy instruction meets them at their individual level.

Word-Wires Readers
Phonetically controlled stories follow our unique, linguistic based phonetic scope and sequence which is informed by the science of reading. Our goal is to provide young readers with books they can enjoy while developing their skills at reading phonetic words and high frequency sight words.
We designed the books to track with the structured, explicit phonetic scope and sequence of the IMSLEC accredited Wired for Reading program and the Word-Wires classroom program, though they can be used in conjunction with any Orton-Gillingham based program. Teachers can determine entry points using Wired for Reading and Word-Wires benchmark assessments.
All readers are recursive; the concepts build on and add to prior concepts. The bolded part of a sight word is the phonetically unfair aspect.
